According to the British newspaper The Telegraph, recently shares of nanoco Technology, specializing in quantum dot technology, fell by almost 80%. The reason for this was the information about the termination of the contract for the supply of components with a large American customer. Presumably it’s Apple.
According to the research company BlueFin Research, The Coopertinoovs have abandoned the idea of using the technology of zD in image sensors for smartphone cameras. Cupertino considered that such a solution would be too expensive and negatively affect the final cost of the device.
It is worth noting that Nanoco Technology announced the signing of a contract with a large American company last year. In early 2019, it became known that the agreement was expanded and now it includes not only preliminary development, but also testing and refinement of the technology. Experts estimated the contract at $21.7 million, which was more than half of Nanoco’s total revenue.
It is worth noting that Apple has long been interested in quantum dot technology. Back in 2017, the Coopertinos acquired InVisage Technologies, which created an image sensor with quantum dots.
