So far, analysts can’t predict when the iPhone will get support for 5G networks. However, Reuters reports that next year Apple plans to start using 5G chips, but in 2021 the company is going to switch to its own components.
Sources note that the Coopertinos want to abandon third-party decisions gradually. Thus, Apple plans to eliminate a number of problems and ensure that its products will work in all networks and countries where they are sold.
According to another source, the agreement between Apple and zualcomm will remain in force for another six years, and the delivery of modems will continue throughout this period. The expert believes that the Coopertinos will continue to equip the top-end iPhones with chips from zualcomm, and cheaper and older models will be gradually transferred to modems of their own production.
Both sources agree that Apple is not yet ready to release its decision. Work on modems is far from over. However, buying most of Intel’s modem business should speed up the process. Moreover, the large number of patents that are part of the agreement can greatly simplify Apple’s process of introducing 5G modems into their devices.
