In 2017, Apple released its first smartphone without Touch ID and, judging by the latest rumors, this year the Coopertinos do not plan to return fingerprint scanner to the iPhone. However, the company still does not want to completely give up Touch ID. Apple’s patent applications hint at this.
Recently it became known that some time ago the Coopertinos registered an application, which described a new way of integrating fingerprint scanner into the display of a mobile device. Apple engineers have proposed creating a large number of miniature holes in the iPhone screen, allowing light to pass to the optical sensor.
The size of the holes should be really tiny. The patent states that they were planned to be placed between the pixels on the display panel. Thus, additional holes will simply not be visible to the user.
As usual, at the moment there is no specific information about the implementation date described in the patent idea in serial devices. However, such a mechanism could allow Apple to equip its smartphones with two identification systems at once. According to rumors, the Coopertinos have been thinking about this for a long time.
