Apple and Tesla have been luring employees from each other for years. Only this year, the Coopertinos managed to attract several top managers from Elon Musk’s company. For example, in April, former Vice President of Technical Engineering of Tesla Michael Schwekuch moved to Cupertino, and today it became known about another “fugitive” from Tesla. It was former Tesla vice president Steve McManus, who was responsible for designing automotive interiors and exteriors.
Apple has not yet commented on McManus’ move. Information that the former top tesla executive decided to change jobs appeared in his LinkedIn profile. Judging by McManus’s social media page, he is now a senior Apple executive. At the same time, the former Tesla employee does not specify what exactly is included in his duties.
It is worth noting that during his career McManus managed to work in several large car companies. In addition to Tesla, where he joined in 2015, he worked for Jaguar Land Rover, Bentley Motors and Aston Martin.
Given McManus’s solid experience in the automotive industry, Apple could have enlisted him to work on his own automotive project. However, this is only a guess. Earlier in the network repeatedly appeared rumors that the Coopertinos decided to temporarily cancel their project to develop their own car and focus on the creation of a system of autonomous driving.
