Apple may equip iPhone with two 3D cameras next year

Reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo continues to share his predictions about the next generation of apple smartphones, which will be released in 2020. According to the expert, within a year Apple can abandon the Camera True Depth, replacing it with a more progressive ToF module.

Thanks to this innovation, the iPhone will not only be able to recognize faces with high accuracy, but also create advanced 3D models of objects. ToF cameras are based on special sensors that are able to emit light and record the speed of its reflection from the object. Knowing the response time, the sensor calculates the exact distance to the subject, working along the lines of a laser rangefinder. Another advantage of such cameras is that they can work at a greater distance. This feature will allow users to unlock the iPhone without bringing it close to the face.

Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that new, more advanced cameras will be installed in two of the three iPhones sampled in 2020. At the same time, ToF modules will be located on both the front and back of the smartphone.
